Brockenbrough was the lead electrical engineer to TransCore for VDOT on this $38.6M design-build project to improve safety and incident management.
Work included full responsibility for design of power distribution upgrades to approximately 85 ATM cabinets along I-66, serving new sign gantries, shoulder and lane control signs, speed displays, incident and queue detection, and cameras. Based on field investigations and calculations, Brockenbrough determined that existing services were adequate and only upgrades and modifications were necessary as opposed to more costly new power services.
This innovative design-build project will improve traffic flow on one of the most congested highway sections in the United States.
