Brockenbrough’s building systems experience ranges from office upfits to turnkey commercial facilities.  With a focus on energy efficiency, mechanical engineers have designed HVAC systems from simple residential style systems to large commercial systems incorporating multiple chillers and boilers.  In the areas of lighting and power distribution, electrical engineers have experience providing designs that integrate with the HVAC design to ensure an efficient overall product.  Brockenbrough also provides plumbing design that integrates with other systems and strives to reduce water usage demands.

The design of recreational facilities is a significant area of expertise for Brockenbrough. The teams have designed and renovated recreational structures for state and local parks, as well as school systems and universities. From park visitor centers and camping cabins to campus pedestrian bridges and high school field houses, Brockenbrough’s team have the skills to create buildings which are functional and sensitive to their natural surroundings. Brockenbrough has extensive experience with historic restoration and repair projects. Some of these projects include Walnut Valley Farm at Chippokes State Park, Dabbs House in Henrico County and Mulberry Hill Mansion at Staunton River Battlefield State Park. Brockenbrough’s teams understand the sensitive nature of these projects and have experience working with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, historic preservation consultants and archeologists.

Brockenbrough became a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) in 2006, and has LEED-accredited architects and engineers on staff who are experienced in sustainable design, the LEED rating system, and the LEED Certification process. With multiple LEED certified buildings completed, these engineers bring a wealth of sustainable design experience to all of our projects. In 2009, Brockenbrough’s office became the first private LEED certified project for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI) in the Richmond, Virginia area.
