MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work as part of a dynamic, multi-disciplined team of design professionals to design and oversee construction of a wide variety of project types ranging from historic restoration to large government and industrial facilities.
  • Take field measurements and notes to document existing facilities.
  • Prepare accurate, well-organized and detailed CAD drawings from field measurements and notes.
  • Develop construction drawing CAD sets from simple instructions demonstrating a broad knowledge of design and construction.
  • Perform basic layout, analysis and design of the mechanical (HVAC) and plumbing components for buildings with little to no direction or supervision from a senior engineer.
  • Actively participate in the development, implementation and enforcement of CAD file management, standards and criteria.
  • Capable of designing, specifying and cost estimating HVAC and plumbing systems on commercial buildings and other facilities in close collaboration with the architect and other engineering disciplines.
  • Perform construction phase services such as submittal review and approval, respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs), conduct site investigation visits, etc.
  • Perform site assessments and develop detailed reports with recommendations and cost estimates.
  • Able to meet project budgets, schedules and performance criteria in a fast-paced environment.
  • Travel regularly to project sites and client locations is a requirement.  Some travel may be international.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification is required.  PE license and LEED certification are a plus.
  • Knowledge of engineering design principles and construction methods related to mechanical and plumbing systems. Experience with green building principles a plus.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in an engineering practice on HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Advanced experience with AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficient in design software including but not limited to HVAC load calculation programs such as Carrier HAP and Trane Trace.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and personal computer skills.
