Mehfoud Elementary School

About This Project

Henrico County was looking to add educational space and classrooms for kindergarten through second grades at Mehfoud Elementary School. This addition included twelve state-of-the-art classrooms and three learning centers designed for small group instruction. The project also covered expansion and renovations to the existing cafeteria.

Services included planning, schematic design, full architectural and civil engineering, and construction administration. Food service planning along with equipment design and specifications were also under the scope of work.

New exterior materials and massing of the addition were designed to blend with the existing building. The curved corner piece topped by a cupola, brings natural light into the internal circulation space and provides a modern interpretation of traditional school construction forms. Special educational design consultants on the team were Fanning Howey & Associates.
