Sprayground, Occoneechee State Park

About This Project

This project developed an approximately 2-acre portion of the park into a recreational area with playground and sprayground components.  Development included a 1,000 square-foot comfort station with a mechanical room, a 900 square foot picnic shelter, a 3,600 square foot playground and a 7,000 square foot sprayground (a zero depth water play feature).

The site was designed to handle stormwater compliance onsite using bioretention filters with plantings selected to be low maintenance and native to the area.  The facility was made accessible by the parking areas, comfort station, and specialized recreational equipment.
