Replace Fuel Distribution System, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst

About This Project

Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey has been designated as the fourth Main Operating Base for the new KC-46A.  The Pegasus is the nation’s newest aerial refueling tanker and strategic airlift aircraft and is rapidly replacing the aging ‘80s era KC-10A Extender.  We were part of the team selected to provide the infrastructure for this important new aircraft.  Brockenbrough provided the planning for the aircraft parking ramp upgrades, and the planning and design services for the necessary upgrades to the existing Type III Air Force Standard hydrant fueling system. Brockenbrough was responsible for developing the new aircraft parking plan and modifying eight existing, and providing eight new, 600 gpm aircraft direct fueling hydrant pits.  We modified the existing pumphouse to allow our hydrant system loop to be safely cross connected to an adjacent hydrant system so both systems could be combined into a single “super loop” and operated together in an emergency. We also developed a phasing plan in conjunction with airfield operations and other Base stakeholders to allow partial ramp operations at all times during the construction project.
