About This Project

This project included the upgrade of the fire protection and potable water distribution systems for the Richmond DLA Aviation facility. Work also included the replacement of fire pumps with Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) pumps sized for six million gallons per day capacity and rated per the NFPA 20 criteria for fire pumps.

The water distribution system upgrade included replacement of 63,000 linear feet of 20-inch through 8-inch water mains as well as the addition of 60 valve houses and valve vaults for double check and pressure relief valve assemblies. The project provided two new six-inch and eight-inch water meters from the Chesterfield County water distribution network.

This project also included upgrades to the primary and secondary electrical distribution system for the fire pump building, as well as upgrades to supervisory controls and data acquisition (SCADA) for remote fire department monitoring of the fire pumping system.
