About This Project

This 4,400-square foot bioretention basin is under construction and was designed to mitigate the increase of stormwater runoff and pollutants from the new development of impervious areas for a new building, gravel parking area with canopies, and loading dock.  This best management practice (BMP) treats phosphorous in stormwater runoff by filtering through its soil media, a thin layer of sand, and stone reservoir before it trickles into a perforated underdrain and flows downstream.  Because this project site has a water table within 1 to 2 feet of the bottom of the excavated BMP, an impermeable liner was used to not contaminate groundwater.
