Replace JP-8 Fuel Storage Tanks, Mountain Home AFB

About This Project

Mountain Home Air Force Base is the home of the 366th Fighter Wing flying F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bombers.  It is an important base because of its proximity to nearby training ranges and as the permanent host to the 428th Fighter Squadron of the Republic of Singapore Air Force.  This DLA MILCON project replaced a single aging fuel storage facility with an up-to-date Bulk Storage Facility and an Aircraft Refueling Hydrant System storage tank and pumphouse facility.  The three existing earthen mounded, concrete covered JP-8 storage tanks were replaced with two 40,000 bbl JP-8 bulk fuel tanks and two 10,000 bbl JP-8 operating tanks.  The new pumphouse feeds an existing Type II hydrant system but was designed for future conversion to a DoD Type IV Aircraft Direct Refueling (Hot Pit) hydrant system.  With careful phasing, Brockenbrough was able to locate the new fuel storage tanks on the same site as the existing fuel storage tanks while maintaining fueling operations throughout construction of the new facilities.
