STRUCTURAL ENGINEER

Austin Brockenbrough & Associates, LLC is a multi-discipline consulting engineering and architecture firm that provides civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering; architecture; surveying; and subsurface utility designation to a wide variety of public and private clients.  While our work is global, our office is located in Richmond, VA. We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer who is self-motivated and ready to contribute to the future success and growth of the Brockenbrough team!

 

This position provides the opportunity to work on a wide variety of design and assessment projects. Projects will range from state or local entities and higher education clients to military clients anywhere around the world. Opportunities to travel around the state, country, and world is an exciting perk of the position.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Producing Construction Documents including drawings and specifications.
  • Computer modeling for document production and analysis.
  • Complete calculations to solve problems and provide solutions.
  • Perform quantity take-offs and assist in preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates.
  • Conduct field investigations and other assessments and collect field data, measurements, and notes to document existing facilities and conditions.
  • Develop detailed reports, structural assessments, and repair recommendations.
  • Determine client needs and producing solutions which are within scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Perform construction phase services such as submittal review, responding to contractor requests for information (RFIs), conduct site investigation visits, etc.
  • Meet project budgets, schedules, and performance criteria in a fast-paced environment with the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Possess an outgoing and positive attitude and the ability to communicate with client staff and internal teams.
  • Travel, including some overseas to friendly countries, is required.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited university; Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering is a plus.
  • Professional Engineer, or near licensure, with 5-10 years of experience preferred.  EIT required.
  • Working knowledge in AutoCAD is strongly preferred; Revit experience is a plus.
  • Experience in RISA 3D is a plus.
  • Experience in designing structural systems in multiple materials (concrete, steel, masonry, wood, etc.) a plus.
  • A majority of work requiring overseas travel will be for the U.S. Department of Defense on U.S. installations; therefore, U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A current passport or the ability to obtain a passport is required.
  • Strong problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and personal computer skills.
  • An interest and ability to grow professionally with our business.
